Be Inspired by the Marilyn Look

Marilyn had an enduring elegance, she has given us a glamorous example of classical elegance that women of any age can either replicate in its entirety or take inspirational elements of the look to produce a personal and individual style.  

Whilst fashion has moved on, many designers today continue to incorporate the ideas from Marilyn’s fashion era of the 40’s through to the 60’s as they have timeless appeal to both men and women. It’s still possible to go into fashion stores today and buy cropped jeans/peddle pushers/ Capri pants etc or pencil skirts and halter neck dresses. Charity shops can be a treasure chest for unique and vintage pieces.  

Currently, there are a vast amount of online retro stores that cater for 50’s look. One such online store based in the UK, which I particularly love is called Big Beautiful Barbara Brown (BBBB for short!).  

BBBB specialise in the vintage look and also produce an ever increasing range of ‘Marilyn style’ dresses – at the moment they are offering dresses based on styles from Bus Stop, Niagara, Some Like it Hot and The Misfits. One of the reasons I’m particularly excited about this vintage style online store is that they can be handmade to your unique measurements and are very reasonably priced!

My BBBB Dress!

Well as previously stated - I did select a dress - I went for the Girl About Town 1930's style dress! It took me absolutely ages to decide - there is just so much gorgeous choice! I placed my order and posted my money off, wondering if it was possible that I could have a dress made to my measurements, which cost less than buying off the peg!

As promised - within 14days my dress arrived beautifully wrapped in pink tissue and ribbons - as soon as I put the dress on I just felt so glam! I love it - taking into consideration that I'm very..... errrrrmmmm..... 'curvaceous' indeed... I just felt totally and utterly gorgeous! I'm currently doing my very best to get fit and lose the excess weight (almost a stone gone so far!) and as part of my incentive you can totally rely on the fact that I will be buying ALL the Marilyn Style dresses when I hit my target weight - and it will happen!
